I think the shoulder buttons can make Mario butt slam on 3D World. So I think you’re accidentally pressing the shoulder buttons without noticing because if it was the D-Pad then Mario would butt slam on Super Mario U. and he doesn’t, you said it was a problem with super Mario 3D world but idk I don’t have the game soo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ this is just a hypothesis

Use the joy cons. The d pad is different. The buttons are separated on the joy cons. Just make sure you use the thing that holds the joy cons together.
