After backpacking Sri Lanka for 3 weeks, here are 10 things I picked up on that I think you need to know before going to Sri Lanka to help you plan your trip there, make the most of your money and time and to be safe and have fun in Sri Lanka.
In this Sri Lanka Travel Guide video I talk about the following subjects:
1- The travel days in Sri Lanka are longer than expected.
2- How to get around Sri Lanka by bus, train, taxi and tuk tuk.
3- The two main monsoon seasons.
4- Reduce your expectations for the 'Instagram spots' in Sri Lanka.
5- The cost of travel in Sri Lanka and travelling Sri Lanka on a budget.
6- ATM's give you your cash back last, watch out for this.
7- Sri Lanka has it all-beaches, mountains, tea plantations, temples, cities, safari's.
8a- Colombo isn't a tourist hub and not as many travellers include Colombo on their Sri Lanka itinerary.
8b- Negombo is closer to Sri Lanka's main airport than Colombo.
9- Sri Lankan people are very friendly and solo female travel in Sri Lanka.
10- What to pack for Sri Lanka and what to wear.

  • thank you for travel sri lanka to see amazing places in sri lanka visit to my channel

  • Though I am very close to Sri Lanka, this video has been very informative πŸ‘. If you could share a video on 2/3 days trip planning to Sri Lanka, and places to stay - it will be very useful.

    • Good to hear! I'd say you could go to Kandy from Negombo where the airport is and then make the journey to Ella although it takes 7 hours. Or you could go South from the airport onto the beaches on the South Western side of the island :)

  • First thing. It is dangerously beautiful

  • You should definitely visit Nepal! The land of Holy Place and Mt. Everest.

  • Actually, we Sri Lankans don't see it as disrespectful about what tourists wear. they can wear whatever they want. it's only in those religious sites that you'll have to cover some parts.

  • Awesome video! ☺️

  • My two cents :-) Regarding the train: There are 1st and 2nd class seats that can be reserved, and you don't have to worry about getting a seat. Unreserved 2nd or 3rd class will definitely be crowded, especially on weekends. Regarding crowding: Unfortunately, most people visit the same few locations when there are similar places available. People tend to follow the herd without really exploring. For example, everyone goes to Ella and visits the same attractions. However, there are many other places with similar or better views than Ella which nobody visits! The budgeteers went to the Knuckles mountains which are less touristy, and they commented that it was one of the best places they visited in the country. For places like Sigiriya, the ancient cities, and famous temples, don't visit on a weekend or a public holiday, and you will have half the crowds! Regarding food prices: Western type foods such as smoothie bowls are undoubtedly going to be expensive, whereas local foods would be dirt cheap. Even in more expensive/fancy places, the Sri Lankan type foods would usually be the cheapest.

    • @The Wandering Quinn Also, when it comes to busses, there are air conditioned ones with limited stops running to almost every part of the country they will guarantee you a seat and the journey time will be a less than the regular ones.. Also, there are luxury busses running on toll-paid highways. ie. from Colombo to Galle, Matara etc.

    • I couldn't work out how to reserve seats, it can only be done online one month out which is a long time and Ella station wouldn't sell me a ticket the day before. Agreed that there are so many more places, I just found it hard to get around and get to new places with public transport only which is why The Budgeteers did it so well in a tuk tuk! :)

  • great tips , some of them useful for locals as well

  • Hi Ellie, useful information for those planning to visit Sri Lanka.

  • yay lunch break viewing!! GREAT TIPS VIDEO, the amount of people that leave their card!! ha ha You are so good at getting that detail in - love it - will definitely be watching this again before going to Sri Lanka! ;-)

    • Thank you love! Ooh yes it's such a big travel error, I couldn't believe I did it haha

  • Nice Video Quinn... I am visiting Sri Lanka in November for a short trip ( 2 Nights Kandy & 2 Nights Bentota)....since i have been to Galle earlier I am skipping that... was wondering about the Mirissa Whale watching experience video u posted. Would you recommend that and how did u book local train tickets. Thanks

    • Hello, I didn't do Whale watching in Mirissa as it was out of season but in season I have heard it's really good! I only got one train and booked it on the day which gave me a pretty awful experience to be honest but I believe you can reserve seats in advance either 1 month prior online or a few days before at the station :)

    • @Raman Arora Thank you. It will be the first time visiting Sri Lanka. Will keep in mind of your tips.

    • @M Depends on your choice...I prefer beaches so i chose to go to Galle & Unawatuna on my first trip. Also always wanted to see Galle Fort & Cricket stadium. If you like hilly areas then suppose Kandy / Ella. Since u r planning a short trip i would suggest to choose one or two places max

    • Can you share a 4 or 3 night trip plan, since you have already been there. I am from Chennai and would be interested to plan a 3 or 4 night trip to Sri Lanka.

  • Bus🚍 train 🚞 tuk tuk
