Kerbal Space Program 2 Developer Answers Important Questions

Pubblicato il 2 set 2019
Private Division flew me up to Seattle so I could meet with Star Theory, the developer for Kerbal Space Program 2, after a private meeting at their offices I had a chance to sit down with creativge director Nate Simpson at PAX West to ask him questions.
As you can guess this trip was paid for by Private Division, but that hasn't influenced my opinion of the project, what did influence me was the fact that Nate had clearly learned a lot from the original game and is well equipped to run the project. I'll admit I was skeptical to start with but I'm a lot more confident in this now I've had a lot of time to talk about their plans and concepts.
The Trailer for the game is here, expected release date is 'spring 2020':

Apologies for the sound quality, the interview booth had massive amounts of sound bleeding over from nearby booths.

Commenti

  • It would be cool if you could create your own Kerbal that represents you and then play him also in first person. Permadeath included!

  • Will stock ksp 2 have clouds?

  • One thing KSP 2 needs to have is a orbital mechanics plotter and decent autopilot that is at least on par with mechjeb.

  • what can possibly go wrong?

  • Looking forward to this

  • They'll screw this uo big time, won't they?

  • I'm going to pirate the crap out of this game

  • I hope KSP2 has an _actual_ mission planner. Knowing when to leave orbit on your multi-planet fly-by journey to the outer system without having to fall back to external, 3rd party resources is one reason I've only ever once _bothered_ to fly out to Jool. It's not because it's necessarily difficult to get there, but all the faffing and bother involved was not worth it. As someone who was playing since before Kerbin even had an axial rotation, the maneuver node system is horrible and is *not* a solution to, frankly, _anything_ and I hope they scrap it entirely.

  • its not rocket sci... wait, it is, but its also explosion science

  • BAE is Bae

  • all i want from the devs is a good terrain with cities, rocks, trees and more stuff to make it look more alive

  • How is time warp going to work with multiplayer? I mean if you're coming down for a landing approach on the Mun and the other person is just heading to Duna and hits 10k speed, your Mun landing is not going to go well xD.

  • 12:45 are they taking a shot at SimpleRockets 2?

  • Ahhh dang it, I was hoping for a real solar system option or even an option for procedurally generated planets/moons. So yeah lets add 3 game play options, stock, real, and procedural.

  • bruh i don’t care bout all of this as long as they got trees on kerbin i’m sold

  • Will we see parts of spaceX? (raptor or merlin engines)

  • JEB IS GOING TO BE IN KERBEL SPACE PROGRAM FUCK YES!!!!!

  • $60 ? Think I will play the first one...

  • They should name a Kerbal after him.

  • someone help me WHY THE FUCK WOULD KSP NEED MULTIPLAYER???? WHY!?!?!?

  • came here to watch a REAL KSP2 interview

  • A bit late to the comments and suggestions for the Dev team, put black-holes in the game and Interstellar type travel through them

  • The thing I'm curious about is if any of the variety of early game parts (i.e. stuff thats in KSP now) will be diminished in favor of fleshing out with new future parts, or if all or most the parts from the original game will still be there. I.e. does it start at the "end" of KSP or does it "start" where ksp starts now plus more?

  • The most important question remains, did they make a Kerbal with independently moving eyes?

  • I didn't know there was a Steve kerman. And the original has changed so much

  • Guys do your best!!! We're counting on you!!!

  • Fly safe!))

  • I wish KSP was out when I was in HS (late 90s). I may have put in more effort in math and science.

  • i speak for everyone when i say.. TAKE YOUR TIME, DONT FUCK THIS UP!!! and SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

  • Scott Manley for Tutorial Voice! There's already a petition going around for this!chng.it/TbLPVzk6ZL

  • 0:53, 60$ ? For this price i expect much more content and some years free content. And not pushed paid DLCs right after release.

  • This is amazing an actual true fan is the creative director

  • So can we do asteroid mining. ☄️

  • There should be a function where once you do a trip, that kerbal who flew that ship can automatically do it again. Provided that it’s the same ship, and same pilot. But the greater the difference in positioning of planets, the greater the probability of flight failure.

    • that would make assembling space stations so much easier hahah

  • Everyone is excited that the director loves KSP ,but it could backfire if he gets too ambitios

  • ADD CLOUDS GOD DAMMIT. and the ability to move the kerbal around inside the ship.

  • "Large, Huge, and OH MY GOD"

  • Shut up and take my money

  • It's good that we have a real fan as the creative director. I have faith in this game.

  • "It can be put on the surface on any celestial body..." Me: raises hand "...uh, that has a solid surface" Me: lowers hand

    • Or, in a less extreme sense, build Kaminoo-esque cities on Laythe

    • @UnitSe7en This isn't NASA, it's KSP! Why _not_ build massive heatshields and and solar floatation devices and colonize the _Sun?!_

    • Well, if it doesn't have a solid surface then how are you going to put it on the surface? Next time keep your hand down and activate the brain first.

  • I will gladly pay 60 bucks for this game when it comes out.

  • why are all of the launch clips like 20 fps? somewhat concerning.

  • By far my most anticipated game.

  • i wish he asked about DRM and microtransactions. will we have to pay to customize our ships and bases?

  • Is it going to have the same spyware they added to the original KSP?

  • I'm gonna need a bigger pc

  • Oh man, I was there at PAX West. I wish I had known they had flown you over, a few of the fans at the booth were actually discussing your tutorials and how helpful they were when we were just starting out.

  • Hey @Scott Manley you might not see this, but why do you support KSP2 so much when the first one is so broken? It had literally over a thousand bugs in 2018 before the (big?) DLC's were launched, but now it has even more. Considering how poorly they have dealt with patching the bugs, some of which have plagued the game for several years now, and a couple which if i recall correctly are from launch/early game(2012-2014). They constantly focus on adding more and more, but not with fixing anything, and in my opinion, just making KSP1 as big as possible, while not. As cool as a KSP2 sounds, I fear they will just completely cut off support for KSP1 and leave it a broken mess. While it is easy to have a bunch of fun in the game, the bugs are so plenty that encountering them are very common, which to nobody's surprise, they ruin said fun. KSP1 was the first game I owned on Steam, and I have a metric ton of hours in it, and since it is my first game, i kinda have a unhealthy obsession with it, and have seen it grown to the game it is today. I tried to make a tl;dr but that didn't go so well: KSP1 is still plagued with bugs and other issues, and focused on adding more parts, upgrades/content, instead of cracking down on the bugs. I fear with KSP2 even just being in development, that KSP1 will never see the point where it isn't plagued with so many bugs. And I fear KSP2 will turn out to be a big buggy mess at launch, and for many years afterwards as well, and that they will just release content constantly and eventually broken DLC. I don't want KSP1 to stop improving, and have support for it cut basically. I'd like them to continue to make it a better game, and not give up on KSP1. And I don't want KSP2 to have the same issues KSP1 has had during its development. As it is, i can't agree with the price tag KSP1 one has for the base game, in my opinon it's at most worth $20, not $40, the DLC's are also fine. So while of course KSP2 is basically a complete unknown until it comes out and we see how it is, unsure about that $60 price tag. And that's just the game, the company has done some really scummy/shady shit before as well. Keep in mind this is just my opinion, but if you could respond regardless, i'd love to hear from ya. I'd also like to hear from anybody else and get their opinion on KSP1.

    • Because as a programmer sometimes you realise a complete rewrite may be the better option.

  • Great I just put this game away. Time to put another thousand hours into it before ksp2 comes out

  • I want Scott Manly as the tutorial voice.

  • Ksp2 is looking awsome

  • When he says "multiplayer" does he mean only coop or online multiplayer with randoms?

  • Has KSP2 added axial tilt to the planetary bodies yet?

  • For multipler would players be able to see each others ships, would be cool if there was a radar system where you can see your ships but others would have to be a certain distance or direct sight with a radar dish to see other people's ships, same with bases

  • If there's something I wish I could tell the KSP team, is to work out a deal with whomever owns Lemmings to add Lemmings to the game instead of Kerbals. Sorry, I've just always wanted Lemmings instead of Kerbals. Aside from that, this sounds awesome! I wish I had a job that could afford me a new PC..

  • Here's hoping for a de-facto asteroid belt!

  • Back with Sputnik, in 1957, the Edwards flight test program was looking at strapping a Vanguard rocket to the Big Engine X-15 with the idea of putting the X-15 into LEO. The technology was there, but there were a lot of questions about the legality, and whether anyone would care. Recall that the Navy was looking at a satellite for the IGY. Again, what was the big deal? Von Braun was a fan, as long as his vehicles were used... Would it have worked?

  • i sure hope they optimize it... i love ksp its my favorite game also but performance was an issue

  • Scott, for those of us who much prefer the Linux OS please use what ever influence you have to encourage Nate to release KSP2 for Linux!

  • I feel like Nate Simpson is really representing the fans interests here! I'm so glad it's in his hands!
