Binging with Babish: Ziti and Lasagna from The Sopranos

Pubblicato il 17 set 2019
Rarely does food play such a central character in a TV show or movie that's not specifically about food, but in The Sopranos, it might as well be one of the family. The crown jewel of which, despite Artie Bucco's hapless attempts, is the cuisine of Carmela Soprano. Strap on your gold President and build a ramp for the ducks, because it's time to emotionally repress our murderous mentality with some cheesy, saucy pasta - with a layer of basil underneath the cheese, of course.

  • Gabagool!

  • I just don’t understand what you have against ricotta cheese.

  • I am always impressed when someone manages to squeeze in "structural integrity" in a non star trek context.

  • Oh no, babish. This recipe is a mess.

  • Whenever someone cooks an italian dish we italians get angry. No matter how good or bad you make it you're always wrong. I realized I was getting mad but cant really say why. Doesent matter if you're american or italian, making it the right way or changing it. Whatever you do is wrong.

  • you should make biscuits and gravy😆

  • When that pot was boiling like crazy I was like “DOWN BESSEH!”

  • You don't need to precook the lasagna pasta lol, the tomato sauce will cook it in the oven. If my nona see me boiling lasagna pasta she would beat me up.

  • Your voice just cured my headache, thank you.

  • Make bitch lasagna

  • I love how he just says "It's a bad day when tiny whisk is in the washer."

  • I would hire you any day to make those lasagna.

  • Most controversial recipe ever since its from the show with the most controversial ending

  • Need more cheese

  • who the heck makes lasanga without beshamel

  • Yeah I'm not big on ricotta either, haha

  • Can mouths have boners when you see good food?

  • My aunt does ziti lasagna. Literally just substitute lasagna noodles for ziti.

  • As an Italian, I feel very offended by you putting ricotta, mozzarella and basil in a lasagna. Absolutely NO! Nada! Nein! Do not ever do that! Do not even remotely think about doing it! Lasagna = pasta + ragù+ béchamel + parmigiano on top, forget about all the other shit.

  • how could i alter these recipes so they don't include meat or cheese. im not really a big fan of pasta either because i have a gluten intollerance. any ideas?

  • its 130 am and I'm Binging!!!

  • My family has always called what "the big boy" a dutch oven and what he calls a dutch oven, a casserole dish. I am very confused on pots right now.

    • In the UK we would call both a casserole, never a Dutch oven. It's really not even an oven, let's be honest

  • imagine being his neighbor

  • It's strange, somehow I own that pot he was using to cool the pasta and the red cast iron pot. What are the odds!?

  • Try it leaving it without tin foil a little more, it will have a crunchier crust. Also, if you have good tomatos and you let it cook slower, you won't need to add any tomato paste.

    • Well the point of tomato pastes inclusion is so it tastes like its been slow simmered for hours when it has only been cooked for like half an hour to an hour

  • So perfect! Garfield Lasagna! 😂

  • Artie’s recipes from vesuvio? Ovah heeeeeaaaahhh. On a serious note there’s a hilarious video compilation called “Artie would like you to try the food”. Have a look for it now

  • *Please do Bill Gannon's BBQ sauce from "Dragnet."*

  • he doesnt like ricotta on his lasagna what

    • Hot take: ricotta is disgusting

  • Wait, so baked Ziti doesn't require 7 cups of salt, 18 cups of oregano and 9 onions? (points to whoever gets that reference without googling)

    • You just won my undying respect!

    • Krwzprtt Sounds familiar. Brooklyn Nine-Nine?

  • MY HEART! Man that De Cecco Box, my favorite pasta, my grandma here in Italy was so used to make That Type of dish called Ziti but with larger and chunkier pasta like DE Cecco

  • Still chill : )

  • You haven't tried ricotta until you've had it fresh from Galati cheese in Windsor, ON, Canada. Sounds unbelievable I know, but you won't know until you try. Worth the trip...from a fellow foodie

  • holy moly that Le Creuset pan ! ... *Dreams

  • May be a running shtick, but why does Babish disagree with Ricotta? I do like the creaminess it brings, but only used it once recently.

  • 5:30 Dear Babish, You missed a beautiful opportunity to say “right meow” when you directed us to your Garfield lasagna video. Sincerely, me

  • my home ec teacher would approve

  • Imagine being the friend that gets all the video food given to them because he can't eat it, must be nice.

  • If there ever is a good batman cartoon again, Babish would be a great Bruce Wayne voice actor.

  • Kosher salt

  • 8:36 did u really say gravy?

    • cos it kinda looks like tomato sauce bit its really gravy

  • one word: fazoli's

  • Brings out goose pot. That is a lot of firepower.

  • Cottage cheese?? Nonononononono!!

  • if you add enough water to your lasagna you wont need to pre boil your noodles

  • I honestly can't think of a way you could make Lasagna without using Mozzarella and Ricotta cheeses.

  • why did I watch this in the middle of the night? I'm so hungry now :(

  • Hey I saw some pasta in your cheese ! :p

  • *Babish breaks out the cottage cheese* Italians: Ayyy, ayyy, heyy, OHH, ay there Capernacus why dont you locate yourself some ricotta over there with your shirt

  • Please make the turturkeykey from How I Met Your Mother or the Tur-Brisk-A-Fil from The Big Bang Theory!

  • I made the Babish version of baked ziti and it was amazing. The only mistake was using ricotta instead of cottage cheese because that's what I had on hand, and I think it was the only weak point - although it may have been because I didn't add any salt into the cheese/egg mixture which made it kind of bland. I will try again with cottage cheese and see if that makes it better, and if not I will just need to add a bit of salt into it before it gets all mixed up and it should be perfect.

  • Do you use everytime so little amounts of cheese? Hmmm? If you are disabled have i asked!!!

  • That looks like a whole day of cooking, you just earned a subscriber my friend!

  • Way too much basil.

  • I prefer Amy‘s baked ziti from Brooklyn 99.

  • What is this foolery? Pre-cooking lasagna noodles?! WHY?! Don't they sell the good ones, those plates that cook perfectly?.... only in America, eh?;) Then again, you people do not make a lasagna, as it is supposed to be made, with a Bechamel sauce on top. Don't you regularly use

  • B R O W N

  • My dad mixes ricotta and small curd whole milk cottage cheese with shredded mozzarella then tops it with grated parmesan for each cheese layer of a lasagna. His lasagna is still my favourite to this day. Edit: I was angrily corrected about what specific cottage cheese he uses😪

  • Imagine being his neighbors
