Rarely does food play such a central character in a TV show or movie that's not specifically about food, but in The Sopranos, it might as well be one of the family. The crown jewel of which, despite Artie Bucco's hapless attempts, is the cuisine of Carmela Soprano. Strap on your gold President and build a ramp for the ducks, because it's time to emotionally repress our murderous mentality with some cheesy, saucy pasta - with a layer of basil underneath the cheese, of course.

  • As an Italian, I feel very offended by you putting ricotta, mozzarella and basil in a lasagna. Absolutely NO! Nada! Nein! Do not ever do that! Do not even remotely think about doing it! Lasagna = pasta + ragù+ béchamel + parmigiano on top, forget about all the other shit.

    • In the UK we would call both a casserole, never a Dutch oven. It's really not even an oven, let's be honest

  • It's strange, somehow I own that pot he was using to cool the pasta and the red cast iron pot. What are the odds!?

  • Try it leaving it without tin foil a little more, it will have a crunchier crust. Also, if you have good tomatos and you let it cook slower, you won't need to add any tomato paste.

    • Well the point of tomato pastes inclusion is so it tastes like its been slow simmered for hours when it has only been cooked for like half an hour to an hour

  • MY HEART! Man that De Cecco Box, my favorite pasta, my grandma here in Italy was so used to make That Type of dish called Ziti but with larger and chunkier pasta like DE Cecco

  • You haven't tried ricotta until you've had it fresh from Galati cheese in Windsor, ON, Canada. Sounds unbelievable I know, but you won't know until you try. Worth the trip...from a fellow foodie

  • I made the Babish version of baked ziti and it was amazing. The only mistake was using ricotta instead of cottage cheese because that's what I had on hand, and I think it was the only weak point - although it may have been because I didn't add any salt into the cheese/egg mixture which made it kind of bland. I will try again with cottage cheese and see if that makes it better, and if not I will just need to add a bit of salt into it before it gets all mixed up and it should be perfect.

  • My dad mixes ricotta and small curd whole milk cottage cheese with shredded mozzarella then tops it with grated parmesan for each cheese layer of a lasagna. His lasagna is still my favourite to this day. Edit: I was angrily corrected about what specific cottage cheese he uses😪
