We challenged chefs of three different skill levels - an amateur, a home cook, and a professional - to make a pot of chili. Once each was simmered to perfection, we asked a food scientist to review their work. Whose chili earned top marks? Find out on this episode of 4 Levels.

  • Level 3 Chef: “You want to make sure you can taste the herbs” Also level 3 chef: im gonna put some cows milk cheese with some seafood

  • As a Grumpy Old Man, "We are going to sear the meat to lock in the juices" is wrong wrong wrong. Meat is basically strands of porous protein fibers, and will never 'Seal', only the bits at the contact surface seal. Ish. The juices continue to escape! Grumble Grumble Snarl....

  • lol why did they let the level 3 make “seafood chili”? which is basically gumbo... It’s so out of place. They should’ve required to be a meat chili, with beef or chicken

  • Level 0: Order a large chili from Wendy’s at the drive-thru. Level 0.5 : Open a can of Hormel’s Chili and heat it in a pot.

  • I did not like Chef Chris on Top Chef. He always seems so pretentious. I was hoping to learn how to make a better chili, not Seafood Gumbo.

  • Beware cilantro because some people taste it as SOAP. Better to not use it unless you know, your fellow dinner companions do not have this gene.
