I admire your attitude but honestly i would rather keep the carpet, it was an ugly finishing on that wood and even more ugly color, sorry.
Downvote. Music. Hate it.
Hi. Do we really need primer first? Or can we jump to painting ? It will be much cheaper though.thanku great vid
seojun minguk oh my goodness I’m so sorry, only seeing this question now! I would definitely prep if your wood floor is on the weaker side (ours is pine, which can dent easily) I hope it helps!
Helpful video! Could you post an update now that it’s been awhile? How’s it lasting? Made/added changes? Thanks! 👍
Kimjay it’s lasting ok, with a few scratches and a tiny pit of chipping! Nothing a small brush and a bit of paint cannot fix :)
Very informed video. Thanks for the tips.
Glad you found it useful! :)
This is what I want I done part one yesterday carpet up and stables. Painting soon just keep changing color ideas
The great thing with paint is that if you change your mind on the colour, you can just repaint over it! :)
Looks great, I think one more way to clean it up a bit more is adding a strip of pre painted white quarter round where the tread meets the riser. Just gives it a nice straight line at the back instead of a kind of blotch line where the white meets the stain.
Alex East we eventually did that as well about a month after! Just had to wait a bit because I ran out of time and work kept me busy for a while
Reasons for my thumbs down: 1. You started off with "So . . . . " 2. You had to mention the cat. 3. Absolutely no home renovation can be done wearing a scarf.
NaturalRights I like that! 😊😊😊 I hope the project is going well!
@Claire Imaginarium Let me say that, because of your idea, I am painting some stairs in an investment property I have. I will change my thumbs down to a thumbs up because of your thoughtful response! 1. It is a terrible, terribly annoying habit that the entire English-speaking world has fallen into starting comments, etc. with "SO. . . " It is basically slang to do that so please, especially as a French speaker, be different and make yourself standout by not falling into that bad habit. BTW - I thought your accent was British. 2. People using pets in youtubes is seen as distracting and self-serving and annoying. Its kinda like using children in a Broadway musical, just a gimmick. 3. French have a strange tolerance for heat. Americans cannot withstand a minute in a Paris subway from the heat - let alone wearing a scarf in there like the French.
Ha! Thanks for the constructive feedback! 1. Just trying my best to speak almost fluently in a foreign language. Plus I started with ‘Hello’ :) 2. Animal lover and proud! And I have a dog now too, so heads-up he’ll probably feature in future videos as well! 3. I m French, we wear scarves even in the middle of the summer #culturaldifferences I would advise viewers to watch this video if they are planning a staircase renovation, otherwise, you may not find it very useful indeed, and I would hate for anyone to waste their precious time watching it and writing non-renovation related comments.
Love Puglia. Hopefully you shared your food with the cute dog staring at you. 🐶
Anna Abrams we only had a drink 😊 not sure I’d have liked our aperol
This turned out great. I am also contemplating removing the carpet on my stairs and painting the treads.
Claire Imaginarium it looks so much better than the carpet that was on there. I’ve been trying to gently peek under the carpet that the builder installed on my stairs just to see what I might be dealing with. I’m seeing a lot of construction mess that will have to be dealt with if I’m going to try salvaging what’s there and paint the treads.
Mark P thank you! It’s a lot of work but we think it’s worth it!
Love Martina franca 😘9.36
I am having mine done based on your video. Thanks
@Claire Imaginarium thank you. I am not looking forward to it but its got to be done.
kaleel Khan great! Good luck with the project!
What paint color did you use on the tread. I looked on your blog page but i didn't find it.
@jess e No worries at all! And thanks! Railing by Farrow and Ball is a very very dark Navy! I like it as it is a bit softer than true black :)
I see is sorry. Great video by the way.
Your pretty cute
Ha! Thanks! :)
It looks nice but I don't think it last for a long period of time, because once the paint starts peeling the stair boards starts cracking and peeling so quick, it is a thin piece of subfloor board
H Norrie we did our homework to make sure that wouldn’t happen, it’s doing alright so far and it’s been 7 months!
What kind of paint do you need for you staircase?
Andrew Dsouza I used the wood and floor paint from Farrow and Ball, all the details are at the blog link in the description box
Instead of music I would have preferred naming the city.
Rose Marie Fanizzi this was my first travel video ever, so pretty old but luckily they have changed a lot since! I even talk to the camera now! Check out some of the most recent ones 😉🤓
Just came back after getting an apartment there.
👍 Nice uploaded🍾A wonderful weekend 🏘 Lovely village 😃 I been there 2018
@Claire Imaginarium 🎵🎵🎶
liked / subbed (^^)/ greetings from Taiwan
we just did this in our 100 year old house! i found a ton of staples and the carpet backing has disintegrated into thick yellow sand... everywhere... btw - i found using scissors the easiest way to remove staples. :)
notfound767 I hope you like the result as much as we do! :)
Thank you very much. My stairs and staircase is very similar to yours and I now what I'll be doing on my days off :)
Not sure why I have just been notifying of your comment but yay! I'm so glad you are doing it! You won't regret it! :)
France is my personal favorite nation to stop by in europe!
Yay! I'm happy you love France!
I enjoyed your video. Lovely! It seems that there's way more market stores open before Christmas. We went after Dec 25 and there are still a lot but looks less. Anyway Happy New Year 2019 and kudos to the Alfa! :-) It's a beauty!
Bonjour! Thank you for your response Claire. Next time, we'll be there before Christmas :-). We got there on the 27th. Thanks for the tip and a great year to you and Andrew.
Arnelle happy new year! Yes as soon as Christmas Day hits the markets get much quieter as us Frenchies get busy eating food with family at home 😉 I shall pass on the Alfa compliment to Andrew, it’s his baby!
Good work and welcome in Strasbourg <3

Awesome video, Claire! We LOVED our time in Japan! So jealous though that you got to see Mt. Fuji, even if it was from the train! What surprised you the most about Hakone? We sadly never made it there
Hope you had a great time in Barbados. That dreaded seaweed... Looks like you found a some great beachs on the West Coast though.
Taziar Travel I know the seaweed was a shame but we still had a wonderful time!

I always love to see how much the tourist enjoy our little island. 😊 please come again . 😀
Anaka Smith we loved it there!
Hi, I have a question did you hear anything about the sewage crisis that was going on?
No problem! I am sure it will be fine! We stayed at the Radisson and had zero issues. You will love Barbados, truly beautiful!
Claire Imaginarium awesome, thank you for letting me know. We plan on visiting, but after booking our resort in the south we found out about the sewage. 😖 Your videos put me at ease though. I’m looking forward to Barbados 🇧🇧. Thank you so much! ☺️🤗
Gretchen Gonzalez yes we did! But even in Bridgetown we didn’t experience any issues. It seemed to be very localised as when driving to Oistin we passed an area with very bad sewage odours but that was it.
i can't wait to go there! just subscribed to ur channel <3 can't wait for more videos
Yes! We went end of September and it was still perfect weather!
